Many developmental problems in children are the effect of a medical condition. The old-fashioned concept of detailed history-taking, understanding the family’s medical history, review of body systems, close observation and physical examination are the first steps toward obtaining an accurate diagnosis for your child. The family’s concerns about their child should be explored in detail. Appropriate studies should follow, within the commonly accepted practice of testing for the most likely, “fixable”, or certain diagnosis, in an orderly fashion that minimizes waste in time or resources. Or worse, needless pain or potential harm to the patient. The resulting medical information is presented to our patients in a manner that is orderly, detailed and understandable.
